1. Warren Haynes - Man in Motion

    Warren Haynes: Man in Motion

Though he is often associated with bands such as Gov’t Mule, The Allman Brothers Band, Phil Lesh and Friends, The Dead, etc., this Grammy award winning rock/blues artist is at it again with his first solo album since 1993: Man in Motion released in May of 2011.

Warren is a natural!   His voice is rich, hearty, soulful, and harshly melodic-the perfect recipe for the blues.  The album consists of stellar guitar licks accompanied with the perfect pacing between blues and southern rock.  The most prominent song on the album, Sick of My Shadow is an overall feel good song, with a groovy, chorus; definitely a good ol’ funky song, incorporating the pleasing sax and organ rhythms.  Another great tune to check out is Your Wildest Dreams, a slow ripple of deep soul.  With his poignant, simplistic lyrics, and a splash of mild funk, the songs are of perfect length; not too long, not too short, with the perfect spritz of improvising and jam time.

I have had the distinct pleasure of seeing Warren tour with The Dead in their ’09 Spring Tour, as well as see his solo act at this year’s All Good Music Festival.  Both experiences were such a treat.  Warren never ceases to bring so much to the table.  Don’t be fooled by his middle age, this man has such good energy.  This album accurately defines Warren Haynes as a musician, and is deserving of such praise.  He is definitely a man in motion (no pun intended).
