String Cheese Incident: 11/30 Baltimore, MD @ The Lyric Opera House
The crowd goes wild as Bill Nershi casually strolls onto the stage with arms raised high above his head. Carefully taking off one sock at a time, and rolling his jeans up; he is ready for the business of groove. Cheers from the crowd increase in volume as the rest of the band approaches the stage, take their places, and get situated with their instruments. Everything turns blue, and foggy. The entire band is blurred during the introductory jam. Then, bright lights, cool trippy psychedelic patterns, and what do you know, “Lonesome Fiddle Blues” comes into play.
I have been waiting for to see this band for years, and I believe it may just be one of the best concerts I have ever attended. Not only because of the incredible sound, vibes, and band; but also because I was right in the middle of everything, and could see clearly (that’s a first; considering I’m always lucky enough to have the tallest person in the crowd right in front of me).
Though SCI had a rather late start to the show, it was well worth the wait. I heard songs I didn’t even expect them to play (See below for set list). Definitely some of the best lighting and incorporated patterns I’ve ever seen when compared to other bands like Furthur, etc. Man, such good energy and groove. I could feel the floor beneath me shake as the entire audience (myself included) danced the night away. The show was a trip! All the components for the perfect show were there: good music, classic venue, crazy lighting, fun people, tasty food/drink, and good times. Needless to say, I definitely got my cheese on.
Set List: Lonesome Fiddle Blues, Smile, MLT, Give Me the Love, Let’s Go Outside, Come as You are, Black Clouds, Eye Know Why, Outside and Inside, Whiskey Before Breakfast, Brand New Start, Black and White, Big Shoes.
